CORRECTIVE EXERCISE

Before the advent of the seated workplace, satellite television, and all of the other modern conveniences in which we indulge today, the human form was ideally aligned to handle the challenges it faced on a daily basis. But lack of proper movement, poor posture, and their resulting dysfunctions have left our bodies out of balance and inundated with a host of aches and pains. Many people today will never experience what waking up in a body anxious to take on the world feels like. Corrective Exercise makes this possible by addressing:

  • posture
  • core function
  • muscle length/tension relationships
  • joint range of motion
  • movement skills
  • workplace and home ergonomics/duties

Once the above categories are analyzed, a detailed exercise program specific to the client’s current needs and training status is developed. Exercise is powerful medicine. Yet one man’s medicine is another man’s poison! So including the proper exercises and stretches while, even more importantly, avoiding the ones a client doesn’t need is essential to the success of any workout program. The wrong prescription of exercises is exactly why many people leave the gym frustrated and making a beeline for their neighborhood orthopedic clinic.

Over the course of 1-2 one hour sessions, Andrew teaches the program to the client. The client then takes Andrew through the workout in an effort to demonstrate the proficiency necessary to perform the program correctly while exercising on his/her own. A videotape of the exercise program can enhance the learning process and is recommended for out of town clients for whom frequent sessions are not possible. In addition, recommendations for improving workplace and home ergonomics, habitual movement and postural patterns, as well as referrals to the appropriate health care providers when necessary (i.e. massage therapists, A.R.T. practitioners, etc.) are provided so that “the dragon is surrounded.”

We are all products of our environment. Yet the environment today is very different than the one our ancestors enjoyed. The air we breathed was fresh. The food we ate was real. The water we drank was pure. Even our very thoughts were clean, virtually free of the toxins and impurities that permeate our current world. As recently as 100 years ago, this all began to change and our bodies have not been able to keep up. Thus if it’s true that it takes the human genome 10,000 years to change 1/10th of one percent, then we are literally leaving our health behind us. This program will teach and help you put into practice the 6 foundational principles which make vibrant living more than the stuff of legends.

The Holistic Lifestyle program begins with a series of comprehensive questionnaires completed by the client. Then, prior to the 1-2hr consultation, Andrew analyzes the information and writes a report detailing all areas contributing to the current state of health with specific recommendations for change and improvement. The plan lists, in order of importance, the actions to be taken by the client to achieve optimal functioning and a healthy lifestyle. This gives the client control over when to make the necessary changes which, ultimately, lends itself to adherence and a long, fulfilling life.

Holistic Lifestyle Consultations can be given face to face or via telephone.

TRIATHLON AND CYCLING COACHING

Reserved for a limited number of applicants, the training plan entails daily workouts within defined parameters (e.g. heart rate zones, duration/volume, energy system trained) which are phased in a sequential order so that the athlete is prepared for continued improvement and/or an optimal performance. The program is designed around general background information provided by the athlete and considers both time limitations and physical abilities to guide athletes to their goals safely and efficiently.

Includes:

  • Weekly Training Schedules practicing progressive overload customized for the individual athlete
  • Personalized heart rate training zones
  • Goal setting assistance
  • E-mail correspondence (normally answered within 48 hours)
  • One client initiated phone consultation per week

Requirements:

  • Heart rate monitor
  • Weekly feedback via e-mail or telephone

Recommendations:

  • CHEK and NLC assessment
  • Weight training facility
  • Indoor trainer
  • Pool access (when applicable)
  • Treadmill access (when applicable)
